Stones from Crystal Mountain.

The two hearts are polished stones. I went to Crystal Mountain and saw many stones. I told my new friend Anna Sue  I will take her there if she comes to Auckland again.

Mussels: New Zealand Green Lip mussels

The mussels you buy from the super markets are quite clean, Rinse them under cold running water.Remove the beard growing out from the two shells.
Sometimes, there are barnacles growing on the shells, scrap them with a small knife.
Discard any that have broken shells.

(1)Chop garlic, ginger and onions, brown, add chilli flakes. (wine optional)
Add the mussels, stir to get mixed with(1) plus a little salt.

Cover the pot.

Check if done, when the shells open.

Add 2 inch lengths of s[ring onions.

Serve with steamed rice.

New Zealand is famous for her mussels. Here's what we had for dinner last night.

According to James Michener, a particle of mussel shell is left in an oyster. This irritant becomes the growth of an oyster pearl.

This has to be a story authored by God.
1977 A university Agricultural Student, Margaret did her summer attachment up North in Waipu.
A Peeters family took care of her.
They treated her like a daughter.
1984 Steve Peeters and I were teaching the same Bible Study class.
He told he he was from Waipu.
We connected via Margaret.
1989, My baby Andrew died,
Steve and Lynn comforted us,
1990, Steve and his mum, Nelly invited us to Waipu.
Nelly and I talked one night.
Nelly, a recent bereaved wife,
I, a recent bereaved mum.
Fast forward.
Steve and I became Facebook friends,
We seldom connect.
2014, yesterday, I posted a photo of Margaret and me.
Steve happened to see photo in his notification.
The rest is History.
Steve went to the airport at 10 pm,
to see us.

To further the story, Steve told us that his wife Lynn is the daughter of an ex missionary to PNG that we know from Mt Albert Baptist Church. How cool is that?

Crystals and pearls

Before we left Singapore for New Zealand, my daughter D chose to stay in Singapore. She was making a lot of jewelery and ear-rings and necklace. She made this for me.

My friends admire me for having a talented daughter. They didn't think D made this. I wear it with pride and joy and only on special occasion.

I recently made a jewellery maker, I remembered this. Sharifah makes exquisite jewellery, Anna Sue Jewellery.

Amy and Tiffany to Fiji

Amy and Tiffany are going to Fiji in June of 2014. We need your prayers and encouragement through this Journey!

In my Mail order bride book, I wrote about a group of young people raising funds to go on a mission to the Philippines.
Today it is fiction turn fact. Amy and Tiffany were selling cakes to raise funds to go to Fiji. Paki Paki, I remember it wasn't do long ago when you were with my son Sam in the Christmas presentation as one of the 3 wise men.

Glass Blower on the Surfers Paradise

I was walking along the beach when I saw the Surfers Paradise Beachside Markets, at the Esplanade, at Surfers Paradise.

What had attracted me to this stall was many many years ago, when I was a student at Auckland University, I sometimes went to this International market in an arcade at Queen Street, an artist was using his mouth and blew into a tiny knob of soft glass into a burner, and slowly his magic turned to be a beautiful vase. I was fascinated and used to stand for hours looking at him, and never buying as I was a poor student.

Forward to 2010, This artist was using a gas torch, but he still fascinated me. I decided to buy some as gifts. I bought a glass kangaroo for the water engineer, an echidna for G and D. When I saw another customer buy a piano, I changed my mind and bought a grand piano for D. http://annkschin.blogspot.com/2010/01/music-box-dancer-by-frank-mills.html
As I paid for my gift, we chatted. The woman told me she was from Christchurch New Zealand. Her name is Karin, the artist is Graham. They have been established since 1987.

The market operates every Wednesday and Friday night from 5.30 pm to 10 pm if you like to view and buy his craft.

Waitangi Day 6th February

I repost a celebation I attended at Okahu Bay, one Waitangi Day when I was involved with Ngarimu and Zero waste.

We now are introduced to a unique experience only from New Zealand. According to Māori Protocol, there is the Powhiri Official formal welcome.
The opening ceremony gives us a chance to watch the Ngati Whatua o Orakei give a powhiri. It begins with wero/challenge. The chief challenges the manuhiri/guests. He carries a spear (taiaha) then lays down a token (often a small branch) that the manuhiri ( Mayor John Banks) picks up to show they come in peace.

John Banks, the mayor picks up the branch as a peace token as part of the Powhiri.
