ABC Wednesday: Letter X for Xin Loi

http://abcwednesday-mrsnesbitt.blogspot.com/

XIN LOI :
(sin loy) a polite Vietnamese phrase literally meaning "excuse me" or "pardon me", but used sardonically by GIs to mean "sorry about that", "too damn bad", or "tough shit";

The tunnels of Cu Chi were dug for the Vietcong recluse. Every city is ringed by miles of intricate tunnels; Tunnel rats' in the Vietnam War was the name given to U.S. soldiers who explored tunnels dug and used by the enemy. The Cu Ci tunnels are now a tourist attraction.

My friend Ling Choon Ming and his wife visited Saigon or Ho Chi Ming City and is photographed trying out one of the rat tunnels.

Thanks, Choon Ming for your photo and sharing your adventure.

Make new friends,
but keep the old,
one is silver,
and the other gold.

It's been so many years since I have seen my old classmates. Recently I found some of them in Facebook. Some of them are traveling and posted wonderful photos.

My friend Ling Choon Ming went on a holiday, and posted this unusual shrimp when he went to Kota Kinabalu. Choon Ming was my classmate in 1970-71. The next time we met up was 28 years later in 1999 when I went back for our 28th reunion. I have not seen him since then. Great to have Face book to reconnect, and for him to let me post photos.

The old Arts building, the icon of my old university.
I went back yesterday to deliver my books to the University Bookstore.

Photohunt: cards

These are my personalised car cards for Patty at Crisfield, Maryland. It was Patty who got me interested in BIG fancy cars. Whenever I see such a car, which is a rarity in New Zealand, I think of Patty.

My Dad frequently sent postcards to my children. Dad passed away five years ago on the 18th of February.

These ones he sent when he was living in Australia seems so appropriate when the Koalas and Kangaroos in Victoria are also suffering from the fires.

ABC Wednesday: wheelbarrow and water tank

http://abcwednesday-mrsnesbitt.blogspot.com/

Pt Chevalier school has an organic garden. An old wheelbarrow is recycled to become a herb garden and rain is collected in the water tank. We are sponsored by the WWF, but this also mean that our crops can't be sold. Children are encouraged to harvest the vegetables when they are ready.

My niece Arlene in Australia had a project to do. She had to make a string "Thing" with another medium. It created a lot of interests, " What is it?" Whatever what it is, is looks good for me to post on something red and something yellow.

One summer evening, which seems so far away, when we are not only in winter, but we have volcanic ash stopping our flights and the recurring after shocks of the earthquake in Christchurch.

ABC Wednesday: V for vacuum cleaner

http://abcwednesday-mrsnesbitt.blogspot.com/

A vending machine that sells you car cleaning products and a car vacuum cleaner.

Apparently this sucks really well. I don't know, because I never used one. I see people use it when I pump my gas.

photohunt: Triangle

http://tnchicks.wordpress.com/

The husband likes to go on his own time to investigate projects he had done years ago. In this case, he took me to see if the break water he designed was still standing up. I like to irritate him and tease if his building had fallen.

Sunday scans/scenic Sunday: National Men's health week

http://scenicsunday.blogspot.com/
LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 13 marks the start of National Men’s Health Week which, appropriately, ends on Father’s Day. In support of Men's Health Week – which is coordinated by the Men’s Health Network (http://www.menshealthnetwork.org) and is designed to increase awareness of preventable health problems and encourage early detection and treatment of disease among men – Health Net, Inc. (NYSE:HNT) is sharing information about screening tests that men shouldn’t ignore.

“and health screenings often help to serve as a bridge to early detection.”

“There are still significant statistical gaps between men and women in relation to health issues,” notes Jonathan Scheff, M.D., chief medical officer for Health Net, Inc. For example, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, men die at higher rates than women from the top 10 causes of death. Additionally, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that men, on average, die almost six years earlier than women.

In New Zealand, it is not fathers' day, but we are also getting people be aware of their health. Men are generally known not to go to the doctors even when they are very sick. The man I married for 32 years belong to the same category.

ABC Wednesday: U for Udders

http://abcwednesday-mrsnesbitt.blogspot.com/

http://www.thepigsite.com/pighealth/article/222/udder

A healthy functional well-formed udder is vital to piglet survival not only to provide colostrum and milk but also to give all the piglets easy teat access.

Teat and udder conformation

There are two fundamental factors that decide whether a sow can rear 12 or more pigs; first whether all piglets are able to get access to teats and second whether they can suck milk freely from them.

Photohunt: Dirty

June 4: Dirty

http://tnchicks.wordpress.com/

The water looks clean, and tempts young boys to wade and catch fish. What they don't know is the dirtiness lurking inside these murky water. All the industrial waste of the surrounding factories seep into the creek and kill it.
